While it may seem that recliners have been around forever, they actually haven’t. In fact, they were only introduced in the 1920s, but their popularity has been hitting new highs ever since.
However, there have been different types of recliners being introduced over the past few decades to meet different needs. If you don’t know what each type has to offer, you may not be able to get the most out of the recliner you buy and may even end up choosing the wrong one.
That being said, let’s take a look at the different types of recliners out there.

Rocker Recliners
As the name suggests, rocker recliners rock and recline. This makes them the preferred choice for people suffering from insomnia, as it can help them fall asleep. There are many who use a rocker recliner instead of their bed to sleep on.
Depending on the product you choose, a rocker recliner may come with several different angles. You can set up a footrest as well.
While rocker recliners cost slightly more than some of the other types, they are actually still quite affordable.
Two-Position Recliners
A two-position recliner, too, functions exactly the way its name suggests. Basically, it comes with two positions, an upright position and a fully reclined position.
While they usually cost the least, they are also very limited in features. They also tend to take up a lot of space, as when you put them in a fully reclined position, the footrest moves up which pushes the chair back.
Push-Back Recliners
Push-back recliners or flex-back recliners don’t come with a footrest. Unlike most other types of recliners, they also don’t have a lever or button that allows you to push it back. Instead, all you need to do is push back while sitting on it to make it recline.
As the back of the chair is the only part that moves, push-back recliners tend to take up less space and hence considered ideal for small rooms.
The push-back recliners boast a modern design and are priced affordably. Furthermore, you can also add a footrest if you really want to by pairing them with ottomans.
As far as the price is concerned, they are usually quite affordable as well, just like two-position recliners.
Lift Chairs
Lift recliners are actually quite different from the other types of recliners. Basically, lift chairs are capable of pushing the chair up to make it easier for the person sitting on it to get up.
It’s usually the preferred choice of people with weak knees or problems with their legs. Another unique feature of lift chairs is that they come in a wide range of sizes, making it easier to find one that fits well.
Massage Recliners
Again, the name pretty much says it all. Massage recliners massage your back and the back of your legs. They can also recline and lift you up.
While you may find many of them coming with a rather modest price tag, the ones being sold by popular brands may cost considerably more.
